In an expansion of its Rooney Rule, which had previously called on teams to interview minority candidates, the league said teams must also interview at least one minority candidate for coordinator openings and one external candidate for positions in teams’ front offices. “While we have seen positive strides in our coaching ranks over the years aided by the Rooney Rule, we recognize, after the last two seasons, that we can and must do more,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said during a media conference call.

The Washington Redskins could be in the midst of making a game changing move with talks that their next hire will be the first Black woman assistant coach in the NFL. Jennifer King, the former coach of the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team in Charlotte, could be joining Redskins’ head coach Ron Rivera’s staff after working under him as a coaching intern, The Atlantic reports.

The Orange Bowl saw the number 9 ranked Gators take on the 24th ranked Virginia Cavaliers. Walking into Hard Rock Stadium felt like walking into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, feeling as if this was a home for the Gators instead of a neutral site. With Gainesville being roughly 5 hours away, many fans turned out to support their team in this championship game. With roughly 70% gator fans in the crowd, this was an uphill battle for Virginia from the opening kickoff. With thousands of Gator fans roaring would the Cavaliers be gator bait?
The Dolphins run game was better in this game, be-tween three running backs they rushed for a total of 78 yards, while Cincinnati’s three running backs rushed for a total of 59 yards. The passing game worked well for both teams, both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andy Dalton threw a total of 108 times. Fitzpatrick was 31 of 52 for 419 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while also being sacked twice, while Dalton was 33 of 56 for 396 yards and four touchdowns.

The Booker T. Washington Tornadoes stormed home to a hero’s welcome Thursday afternoon. BTW rallied to score 15 points and force a key second-half turnover in the final 5:25 to beat Jacksonville’s Bolles Bulldogs 25-21 in the Class 4A state championship in Daytona Beach Wednesday night. “I think that’s been the story of our season: we’ve been the comeback kings or the never give up group,” associate head coach Ben Hanks said. The victory gave BTW its sixth state championship.
