“Ben Crump Law” appeared on the left sleeve of the blue shirt worn by the Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac on Thursday while he was eliminating 16th-seeded American Sebastian Korda in the second round. Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic wore the same type of patch mentioning Crump’s law practice during a loss to 2021 U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev on Tuesday.

Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders became the first NCAA football player to sign an NIL (name, image, and likeness) deal with Nike on Wednesday.    The Orange Blossom Classic traditionally featured the FAMU Rattlers versus a worthy opponent as was the case for previous 2 years (Jackson State University vs. FAMU) since its resurrection. The Denny’s Orange Blossom Classic committee chose defending MEAC Champion North Carolina Central University to compete against the Alabama State University Hornets who are predicted to win the SWAC championship. The game, scheduled to start at 1:00 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Garden, didn’t actually begin until around 3:00 pm due to inclement weather, an element that would become a recurring theme.

Jim Crow chicanery led to a secret agreement to not sign any more Black players. That void was filled with the nascent Negro League. The Negro League Baseball Museum cited, “Black players formed their own units, ‘barnstorming’ around the country to play anyone who would challenge them.” The movie Bingo Long and the Traveling All Stars was based on those teams. In 1920, an organized league was formed under the helm of Andrew “Rube” Foster—a former player, manager, and owner for the Chicago American Giants.” Rube was a passionate visionary. After the first World War he took  advantage of the “Great Migration” to unite an all-Black group of owners  to create the Negro National Leaguge.  The league had eight teams: The Chicago American Giants, the Chicago Giants, the Cuban Stars (New York), the Dayton Marcos, the Detroit Stars, the Indianapolis ABC’s, the Kansas City Monarchs, and the St. Louis Giants.

“Mr. Attles left an indelible mark on the school he loved, North Carolina A&T State University, and the entire basketball world,” said North Carolina A&T Director of Athletics Earl M.
