Edward Waters University is a private Christian-based HBCU in Jacksonville, Florida, founded in 1866 by African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) members as a school to educate the newly freed black people and their children. In 2019, the university was invited to join the SIAC, a historic Division II HBCU athletic conference. The 2024 season will see Edward Waters become full members of the SIAC and NCAA Division II after their three-year mandated transitional period after moving from the NAIA.
