Every year, approximately 600,000 hysterectomies are performed in the United States, with a significant portion done to treat uterine fibroids. Alarmingly, statistics indicate that about 30% of these surgeries may be unnecessary, particularly impacting women of color, who are three times more likely to undergo a hysterectomy than their white counterparts, according to a report from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). This raises critical concerns about the decision-making process regarding women’s health and the alternatives available to them. Many women suffering from fibroids experience a range of symptoms, including heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and pressure.
