       On Sunday, May 17, 2026, Mt. Hermon AME Church of Fort Lauderdale will celebrate its 120th Glorious Anniversary with two Holy Ghost-inspired worship services honoring the church’s rich legacy of faith, leadership, and community activism.  The celebration begins at 9:00 a.m. under the direction of Mt. Hermon’s dynamic and visionary spiritual leader, Rev. Henry E. Green III, affectionately known as “Pastor Trae,” who will deliver the morning message.

Last week I alerted you to a subject that I believe may prove controversial, impractical, or implausible but one that I hoped would at least generate some serious contemplation and consideration. In today’s political climate and division, I believe that our high school and college athletes no longer have the luxury of straddling the fence when faced with the choice of selecting a college to attend and compete athletically.

     Voter suppression is one of those factors that can significantly impact election outcomes. Looking toward the presidential election, if voter suppression is to occur, it will likely include Florida, aimed disproportionately at people of color.  These activities now tend to change results in close elections.  The Brennan Center for Justice, a policy and law institute which deals with issues such as voter suppression, explained that this negative trend is growing.
