South Africa prays for Nelson Mandela, who is in poor health

    By Your Black World

Former South African President Nelson Mandela isn’t doing well. The storied leader is now receiving treatment for a serious lung infection and has been hospitalized as a result.  The 94-year-old leader’s condition has remained under wraps by the government, but they did acknowledge his condition as “serious but stable.”

The office of President Jacob Zuma confirms that Mandela is now at a Pretoria Hospital due to his weakened condition. The lung infection is a recurring problem for the leader, who has been ailing quite a bit over the last several months. Mandela has been in the hospital four times since last December, catching pneumonia in April.

Mandela is a warrior. He was freed in 1990 after serving 27 years in prison and became the president of South Africa just a few years after that.

“When I was still a kid, we used to pray for him,” said Welcome Tempa, a 63-year-old construction worker.

Mandela is a Nobel Peace Prize winner and is largely responsible for bringing South Africa into the modern post-apartheid era. It has been long speculated that his health problems might lead to his demise, but each time he pulls through.
