      Local news has its finger on the pulse of our communities. When city council acts (or acts up), when disaster strikes, when corruption or scandal needs to be scrutinized, local news steps up. From our kids’ sporting events to small town heroes, road construction detours to storm preparedness, they cover stories of interest and importance to our daily lives – stories that large media overlooks.  

     There are some issues that are so complex that experts are needed to find the safest way forward. One of these is nuclear weapons policy. But we are a democracy, where the peoples’ will prevails. Our country has never had a national discussion in real depth about nuclear issues. It is time to begin one.

We will be celebrating Lady Betty Ray and the legacy of our late Pastor, Dr. James Ray, Pastor Emeritus for 33 ½ years of beyond dedicated service to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, surrounding churches, members, and the entire community.      A family has hired civil rights representation in the recent death of their loved one, A who was shot and killed Florida police shot and killed a Black U.S. Air Force member Friday (May 3). The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday that the officer “reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man armed with a gun.”
