For the second consecutive year, members of the Broward County Tuskegee Alumni Club provided a delectable, home cook meal for the Tuskegee baseball team which played a 3-game series against Lynn University of Boca Raton, Florida. Alum Kim Robinson and her husband Robert, class of ‘94, a former Tiger player and graduate assistant, upon discovering that the team would be competing locally, seized the opportunity to give back to Mother Tuskegee through feeding the coaches and players at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church (Rev. Robert Stanley, Senior Pastor) in Pompano Beach where Kim and her husband are both members.

Though the Tigers were competitive in each contest, the veteran Lynn team won, sweeping the three-game series. However, the experience gained through athletic competition and travel, were    irreplaceable life-learning opportunities. The players delighted in and appreciated the south Florida hospitality provided by our local alumni club, which included the obligatory barbecue ribs, fried chicken, multiple vegetables and scrumptious deserts.

In addition, several TU alums witnessed the Broward Sheriff’s Office honor three of the much-heralded and decorated Tuskegee Airmen-Judge Richard Rutledge, Mr. Eldridge Williams, and Colonel Leo Gray-at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center on Friday, February 28, 2013.

The honorees were presented certificates for their endearing service and sacrifice to our great country from Sheriff Scott Israel’s representative along with a magnificent trophy shaped in the image of the iconic American bald eagle. The program MC was Veda Wright, public relations spokesperson with BSO. Students from Oriole Elementary also saluted the airmen through the recitation of information that they had acquired while researching the exploits of the Tuskegee Airmen during the Black History Month celebration.

The BCTAC meets every third Saturday at 1 p.m., location TBA via email notification. We encourage and welcome the support, attendance and participation of all alumni and friends of Tuskegee.
