NEW DELHI — In a bid to make the inoculation process easier in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on Aug. 24, announced that Covid-19 vaccination slots can now be quickly booked on WhatsApp.

Taking to Twitter, Mandaviya said patients have to send a message “Book Slot” to MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk on WhatsApp, verify OTP and follow the steps.

“Paving a new era of citizen convenience,” Mandaviya tweeted.

“Now, book Covid-19 vaccine slots easily on your phone within minutes. Send ‘Book Slot’ to MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk on WhatsApp, Verify OTP and Follow the steps.”

“Vaccine slots can now be booked on WhatsApp,” Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted.

“Centre’s digital transformation drive easing lives during Covid-19 pandemic. Bridging divide, bringing benefits.”

Mandaviya’s office said anyone who wants to download the certificate can send a message ‘Covid-19 certificate’ on WhatsApp to a number +91-9013151515 and receive it.

“Revolutionising common man’s life using technology! Now get a Covid-19 vaccination certificate through MyGov Corona Helpdesk in 3 easy steps. Save contact number: +91 9013151515 Type & send ‘covid certificate’ on WhatsApp Enter OTP Get your certificate in seconds,” Mandaviya’s office tweeted.

Earlier, the Covid-19 vaccination certificate could be downloaded from Co-WIN Portal or Arogya Setu/Umang Mobile Application. It could be downloaded after each dose (Provisional Certificate after the first dose and Final Certificate after the second dose).

The weblink for the Covid-19 vaccination certificate is available in the Text SMS sent to the beneficiary after vaccination and successful way to update the vaccination status in Co-WIN.

WhatsApp had recently announced stickers and other features to promote vaccinations.

“WhatsApp is proud to announce a new sticker pack with the World Health Organization (WHO) called Vaccines for All,” WhatsApp said in a blog.

“We hope these stickers offer people a fun and creative way to connect and privately express the joy, relief, and hope they feel about the possibilities the Covid-19 vaccines offer, and to show their appreciation for the healthcare heroes who have continued their life-saving work during this long and difficult time.”

“We want to help governments and international organizations connect as many people around the world to vaccine information and services as possible, especially those in hard-to-reach places or in marginalized groups,” WhatsApp said.

“We’ve also waived the fees that come from sending messages through our WhatsApp Business API. As we move slowly, in some countries, towards being together in person, we hope people will continue to share their private thoughts and experiences – and hope – with their family and close friends on WhatsApp.”
