KATHMANDU, Nepal — To support Nepal, on Aug. 26, India gifted a medical oxygen plant to the Himalayan nation to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
As per the Indian embassy in Nepal, the medical oxygen plant has been installed at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is designed to provide 5 Liters Per Minute per person, amounting to a total capacity of 960 liters per minute.

It carries a capacity to serve 200 patients simultaneously.
At the ceremony, the ambassador highlighted the significance of the deep-rooted and multifaceted partnership between India and Nepal and reiterated that this gift symbolized India’s continued commitment to Nepal in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Umesh Shrestha, State Minister for Health and Population in Nepal, said donating an oxygen plant as a critical health infrastructure would reinforce Nepal’s efforts in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that the assistance by the Indian government two decades ago in building B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan was an important milestone. The addition of an oxygen plant is another milestone that would go a long way in serving the people of Nepal, particularly Provinces 1 and 2.
The embassy said the Indian government will continue to stand with Nepal and its people in fighting the pandemic and providing necessary assistance as best possible in accordance with the deep-rooted bilateral ties.
India delivered another 100 tonnes of medical oxygen to Sri Lanka on Aug. 25 to help the island nation combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
New Delhi has delivered 280 tonnes of Oxygen to Sri Lanka within a week. The Indian high commission said that more oxygen supply to Sri Lanka is expected in the days and weeks ahead.
“And the supply continues!!! With the arrival of 100 tons of oxygen from #Haldia today, a total of 280 tons came from #India to #SriLanka within one week. More expected in the days and weeks ahead,” tweeted the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
An Indian Naval Vessel Shakti on Aug. 22 reached Colombo with 100 tonnes of Oxygen from Visakhapatnam.
“Aligned with the Government of India’s ongoing commitment to support Sri Lanka in the fight against Covid-19, Indian Naval Ship Shakti set sail to Colombo with 100 tons (5 containers) of Liquid Medical Oxygen on board from Visakhapatnam on Aug. 19.” said the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka in a press release.
The High Commission of India in Colombo had said the Indian Navy Ship Shakti reached Sri Lanka with wishes and goodwill from the people of India to the people of the Island country.
“Fully loaded with wishes and goodwill from the people of #India to the people of #SriLanka, Indian Naval Vessel Shakti reaches #colombo with 100 tonnes of Oxygen from #Vizag. More oxygen consignments scheduled from #India !!!” tweeted the High Commission of India in Colombo.
Sri Lanka is currently experiencing a rapid rise in infections. The island nation has announced a 10-day lockdown starting on Aug. 27 night in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
India had previously also helped their other neighbor Bangladesh providing them with oxygen to tackle the pandemic.
“Neighbourhood First delivers again. Oxygen Express from India arrives in Bangladesh,” tweeted S.Jaisankar, India’s Minister for External Affairs, on July 24.
