Crespo elected as President of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida

Henry Crespo, Sr. of Miami-Dade County ,was elected president of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida at its 31st Annual Conference held April 27, 2013 at the Doubletree by the Hilton – Orlando at Sea-world.

Crespo’s election was a mandate from 15 Democratic Black Caucus chapters from across the state representing more than 400 members, for new leadership and direction for the historical Black Political organization, which was founded by attorney Morris M. Milton, Sr., in 1983.

During his two year term of office, President Crespo plans to, immediately focus on recertifying, unifying existing DBC’s and establishing new Chapters for a more respected and powerful political organization.

President Crespo said “the DBCF will develop a strategic action plan to identify, engage, educate and motivate Democratic voters to affect positive change across the state, In order to impact public policy in areas such as voting rights, health care, immigration and above all the double digitun- employment rate impacting urban and rural communities.”

The DBCF also understands the importance of building coalitions with other caucuses and organizations with the same aspirations for improving the lives of Florida residents.  “The DBCF looks forward to working very closely with Mrs. Allison Tant-Richard, Chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party, to register voters and get them to the polls to elect more Democrats and to defeat Governor Rick Scott in 2014,” President Crespo explained.

Lydia Hudson, 1stVice of the DBCF said, “Working along with Henry Crespo to make the DBCF a politically astute and powerful voice in the political process of Florida is an exciting and challenging task. I look forward in using my experience to assist our new President Henry Crespo in the development and implementation of a strategic plan that builds a unified organization and infrastructure. That will empower the million plus voters and citizens of the great State of Florida.”

Also elected where were LaVonne Grayson, 2nd vice president; Dorothy Jackson, secretary; and Francine Garcia, treasurer.
