America’s Constitutional Democracy as established by the Founding Fathers between 1787 – 1789, wasn’t totally conceived by them because of their infinite wisdom or unmitigated faith. For the idea of self-governance as a democracy dates back Millenniums. In fact, the concepts of democracy and constitutional forms of government originated in ancient Athens in 507 BC. Yet despite America’s Constitutional democracy zenith, it faces an impending dissolution.
The Constitutional Convention was held in 1786, whereby the U.S. Constitution was written in 1787 and ratified in 1788. This Constitution has been in operation since 1789, making it the world’s longest surviving written charter of government. To make it more perfect and accountable to the people, it has been amended twenty-seven times.
Regardless of its longevity and the endless amendments to the U.S. Constitution, it remains a racist document which underscores a white supremacy ideology. The tenet, “all men are created equal,” implicitly pertains to white men and by omission relegated women as merely chattel.
One must admit, regardless of its flaws, the U.S. Constitutional democracy has managed to reach an unparallel zenith. Without question, it has created the world’s most powerful and successful democratic government. History shows that it has survived a Civil War, two World Wars, and multiple lesser wars. Notably, it also has the world’s highest GDP at $20.89 trillion.
Yet, unbeknownst to voters, the 2016 presidential election of Donald Trump as the 45th president, marked a new date of infamy. Unfortunately, he launched an impending dissolution of America’s Constitutional Democracy. Throughout Trump’s presidency, he demonstrated contempt for the U.S. Constitution, the rule of law, and political norms.
During Trump’s reign of political incompetence and sheer lunacy, he gave new meaning to former president Theodore Roosevelt motto, “speak softly and carry a big stick.” Trump speaks loudly, harshly, threateningly, and wields a stick of fear and retribution. Remarkably, democratic voters fearing an autocracy, voted him out of office for the 2020 presidential election.
Currently, while facing 91 felony indictments and a slew of civil indictments, former president Trump remains the Republicans’ front runner for their presidential nomination. Unbelievably, Trump at rallies continues to spew threats of retribution towards his proverbial enemies.
The Washington Post has reported that Trump and his allies have devised plans to use the federal government to punish opponents and critics. He’s also called his foes varmints. Doesn’t this sound like a script taken from Hitler’s Masterplan?
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it did. A group of staunch right wing conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives used strong armed political tactics, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, to relieve Kevin McCarthy of his speakership.
Consequently, the dissolution of America’s Constitutional Democracy picked up steam with the election of Rep. Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House. Johnson, who now becomes second in line for the presidency, previously helped deploy tactics to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Doesn’t this make him a coconspirator?
Now, literally with a gun in hand, instead of a gavel, House Speaker Johnson is playing a game of Russian Roulette with the budget. He’s threatening to shut down the government if democrats refuse to accept his draconian budget reduction plan. Is this any way to run a government?
America’s Constitutional democracy continually faces an impending dissolution by former president Trump, if re-elected in 2024. His cult of anti-democracy Republican Congresspersons remain fixated on his re-election. House Speaker Mark Johnson, as a radicalized conservative, also constitutes a serious threat.
It’s inconceivable that the Republican Party is poised to not pass a new spending bill; thus, risk shutting down the government. A legislative failure of this magnitude could trigger a constitutional democracy impending dissolution.
Did Congresspersons not take an oath to support the U.S. Constitution? Article 1, Section 8, Clause 2, of the Constitution grants Congress power to borrow and spend money for the “general welfare” of the country. Congress is obligated to pay its creditors!
