The $1,000-per-student awards acknowledged those with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, “demonstrated leadership, outstanding character, and dedication to community service,”
Treysean Henry, a recent graduate of Palm Beach Lakes High School in West Palm Beach, was among 27 students awarded college scholarships by the Palm Beach County Caucus of Black Elected Officials (BEO) and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) at the Manatee Lagoon on Saturday.
Henry, who is set to attend Palm Beach State University to major in health science, expressed his passion for health and wellness as the driving force behind his decision to pursue a career in the healthcare field. He was joined by BEO members, including state Senator Bobby Powell, state Representative Jervonte Edmonds, and Port of Palm Beach Commissioner Dr. Jean Enright, who presented the awards.
The scholarships, totaling $1,000 each, recognized students for their academic achievement, leadership, character, and dedication to community service. The awards demonstrate the caucus’ commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders and investing in their future success. The scholarship recipients plan to attend colleges such as Florida Agriculture & Mechanical University, Howard University, University of Michigan, Palm Beach State College, Louisiana State University, University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, Wilkins Honors College, and more.
