Today’s political climate, particularly under this rogue administration and the implementation of Project 2025, is a personal affront to and attack on Black America and other minorities. My conscience won’t allow me to write specifically about sports. So I’ve been thinking about a phrase or title that would adequately convey my intent, which is to write commentary about sports and politics. I have therefore, for the immediate future, settled on POLISPORTS. You’ve probably read my sentiment about how sports just keeps on giving. It somehow rings hollow now.

The New York Knicks swept Cleveland on Monday, advancing to the Finals as Eastern Conference champions and now await  the Western Conference winner, either the favored OKC Thunder or the young but talented San Antonio Spurs, led by Frenchman Victor Wembanyama, aka “The Alien.” The series is currently tied 2-2. MLB is in full throttle as it heads toward the midyear All-Star showdown. Napoleon Solo won the second leg of the Triple Crown, the 151st Preakness, and tragically, popular NASCAR driver Kyle Busch died after suffering from pneumonia and sepsis. We express our sincere condolences to his wife, children, and the entire NASCAR family.

Based on our Florida Panthers’ successive Stanley Cup championships, hockey’s popularity has increased in South Florida, and despite the team’s early exit, the ’26 playoffs are eerily similar to the NBA. In the West, Las Vegas has a 3-0 lead over Colorado (think Knicks), while in the East — very similar to the Spurs/Thunder series — Carolina took a 2-1 lead over Montreal – also on Monday – in what portends to be an extended, competitive series.

Here’s where the Polisports conflict becomes more visceral and gut-wrenching. With the litany of documented atrocities perpetrated against Black people by the inhumane Orange Man and his Banana Republic administration, just when you think it couldn’t possibly get worse, it does. Second-year New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, from — of all places — SEC Ole Miss, appeared in a public forum in support of 45-47. I find that completely reprehensible because it confirms support for his racist agenda, never mind that a majority of his teammates are Black.

In his continuous lunacy, 47 ordered the grave markings of fallen Black WWII veterans removed, outraging the people in Denmark, who took great pride in ensuring that the sites were preserved in honor of their service regardless of color.

To add insult to injury, the dictator-loving narcissist sued his own government for $10 billion after his income tax information was leaked, and his judicial sycophants are settling for $1.8 billion, much of which will be used to compensate the January 6 insurrectionists whom he pardoned. There has been no outrage or objection from the Republican-led Senate or Congress. God forbid it gets to SCOTUS. No compensation for slave descendents but traitors -Absolutely!

Though I have an obvious affinity for sports, like myriad others, I love freedom, democracy, my people, and this country more.

I therefore have a mandate to play the game of life through registering, educating, and mobilizing people to VOTE IN THE MIDTERMS like Obama is running and like our lives depend on it — because they do.

Of Note: The NAACP is sponsoring a TOWN HALL ON THURSDAY AT 7:00 PM @ MT. HERMON FTL.
