Birthday celebration for local Nonagenarian
Mrs. Norma “Honey Bunch” Wright

On Dec. 26, 2015, family and friends gathered at a local restaurant to honor and celebrate the 90th birthday of Norma “Honey Bunch” McCoy Wright. She is the oldest surviving member of one of our community’s families – The McCoys.
Although born in Waynesboro, Ga., this “day-after Christmas birthday girl” grew up in Fort Lauderdale. A 1947 graduate of Tuskegee Institute (now known as Tuskegee University), she began her professional career as a dietitian. She and her husband, the late Julius Wright, are the parents of five children—Julian (“Dr. J”), Roslyn, David, Norman (“Stormin’ Norman), and William (“Billy/Bill”). Their only daughter, Roslyn, and their youngest son, William, are deceased.
Filled with a natural gift for helping others, “Mrs. Wright” (as she is affectionately called by those she assisted) was also a social worker. She has served countless youths and their families as a visiting teacher/school social worker with the Broward County School System. She retired in 1994.
Lovingly planned by her sons, Julian, David, and Norman, the celebration was filled with reflections of those that hold fond memories of her impact on their lives. Warm reflections were given by Sonya Burrows, Maude Storr, Karen Collins Avery, Janice Kennedy Hayes, Rudy Green, and Vince Collins II. Happy Birthday to a phenomenal woman!
