Dem Leader Smith to GOP: Told ya so

    By Kathleen Haughney

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Senate Democratic Leader Chris Smith had a few words for state GOP leaders over the problems in the 2012 General Election.

“I hate to stand here and say it, but we told you so,” he said.

Smith noted that Democrats fought against changes Republicans pushed for in the 2011 election law, including a decrease in the number of days in early voting.

The House and Senate are now reviewing the 2012 elections and are discussing undoing many of the changes they made in 2011, including the decrease in early voting days from 14 to eight. Though, it is unclear if they will go back to a full 14 days of early voting or somewhere in between.

The change in 2011 increased the number of hours for the eight days, which lawmakers said may offset the decrease in actual days. Democrats disagreed.
