She Said: Wow Don, Texas has certainly stirred it up with their Draconian new anti-abortion law! Before we all go off half-cocked, here’s a little background for context:
Abortion was NOT always a topic in the national discourse! Republicans turned it into a draw for their evangelical voter base. Reagan paraded the pro-life stance in his presidential bid, despite liberalizing California’s abortion laws as governor! The GOP never lets hypocrisy get in the way, and it’s been downhill for women’s bodily autonomy ever since.
Same old story–follow – the money! The end goal is for Republicans to keep power. This Texas law is the inevitable outcome of ignoring the concept of separation of church and state. We need laws based on logic and contemporary circumstances, not religious ideology. Not laws that repeat history, when women were just chattel! Don, do you think the Texas law will stand?
He-Said: Even Nostradomis could see that this current Bench is going to overrule the seminal Roe v. Wade case. Personally, Nicole, I’m against abortion. We all agree that murder is a despicable act. Now don’t get it wrong I am for a women’s right to do what she wants with her body. She should not have to ask for consent, although I can see the merit in consultation from a medical practitioner.
My decision comes down to if it’s my baby? Fine if you’re adamant about a woman making the decision then it’s her choice. I can choose not to support that little bastard. Hey, it’s my money, my choice! [Wink]!
Jokes aside, this is a serious issue which we are having to revisit again. It was Shakespeare who wrote, “The past is only a prologue for the future!”
