Activists say “Impeach Trump!!!”

NEWARK, NJ — In the current growing politically hostile climate raging across the U.S. since President Donald J. Trump took office over two years ago, calls for his removal (either by way of resignation or Impeachment) are now a daily occurrence. This has been further fueled by his constant refusal to submit his tax returns from previous years, and his Administration’s stubbornness in submitting to several Congressional subpoenas issued to members of his cabinet.

Some presidential historians have argued that Trump’s tenure is perhaps the most outrageous presidency in modern history-due to the ensuing controversy that keeps surrounding it.

From tax evasion claims to accusations of racism-to colluding with an enemy foreign government, it is unlikely that the Trump White House ever sees a dull moment. The controversies, however, plaguing 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW have spilled over into the streets of America.

Anti-Trump activists everywhere are holding demonstrations, almost on a weekly basis, demanding his immediate removal from office.

Once such group of activists is the New Jersey based People’s Organization for People (POP) founded and lead by its National Chairman Lawrence Hamm since 1982. On September 21, POP held an “Impeach Trump” rally in Newark, NJ in front of the city’s Abraham Lincoln Statue which sits at a major intersection facing Essex County College. The organization demanded the president be impeached on the grounds of racism, xenophobia-as it pertains to Latin immigrants, Tax Evasion, and violating Constitutional Law.

While addressing the audience the small gathering primarily consisting of local activists, Hamm-who is a supporter of Presidential Candidate Senator Bernie Sanders- wasted no time in outlining his organization’s reasons for holding the demonstration.

“We demand the impeachment of Trump for lying to the American people. We demand the impeachment of Trump for failing to respond to subpoenas from the House of Representatives. We’re here today to demand the Impeachment of Donald Trump for Obstruction of Justice, and for profiting from the office of the White House. We’re here today to demand the Impeachment of Donald Trump for collusion with foreign powers, and for advocating violence.”

Hamm along with many critics across the country have accused the president of inciting violence at his political rallies-which in some cases Trump opposers have been assaulted.

Democratic Socialists of America representative Gabe W described President Trump as “a symptom of a problem” that exposes multiple societal problems.

“Donald Trump is the ripple of something that goes much deeper. We’re seeing health disparities, income inequality. We’re seeing imperialism affecting other countries. And the root of that are private interests that don’t give a damn about working class people or minorities in this country.”

Trump’s critics have accused him of only looking out for the rich-although during his first campaign he promised to help working and poor class Americans. This of course was overshadowed by his recent Tax Cuts that primarily benefited wealthy Americans.

As the rally concluded POP made sure that it did what’s it known for doing, and that is stressing the community to register to vote.

The organization’s Press Officer Baba Zayid Muhammad discussed what many have referred to as a “voter purge” in which thousands of people across the country identifying as registered voters have said that their names were erased for voter rosters-a major issue that was addressed during the 2016 White House race. Muhammad made clear that this needed to be aggressively countered.

“We need to create a groundswell of protests for people being knocked off the polls,” he said.
