 On Saturday, Haiti experienced a deadly earthquake of 7.2 magnitude. It left at least 1,297 people dead and more than 2,800 injured. The destruction has also filled hospitals and blocked roads. This earthquake has caused much grief and distress and has left so many people hopeless for the future. Keep Haiti in your prayers because they will need help.

     Twelve young men from South Miami-Dade County were recently recognized for their academic achievements in high school during a tumultuous year that was marked by a world-wide pandemic, school closures, and virtual learning.

       I’ve talked to several people, including family members, who have suffered with COVID. I want to share this story /opportunity I had to talk to a young man who had COVID, was hospitalized in Intensive Care on a ventilator, and yet he’s able to tell his story. It is so heartbreaking that many people can’t share the same story as he can as he is alive to tell others about it.

Following the earthquake this past weekend that devastatingly impacted communities throughout Haiti, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a global non-profit public health organization that addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic, is collecting critically needed items to support the time sensitive relief efforts.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson issued the following statement in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti: “I was very disheartened to learn that Haiti has once again been stricken by a devastating force of nature. Today’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake has killed dozens of people and injured scores of others. This could not have happened at a worse time as the nation was already reeling from economic and political crises, widespread corruption, and last month’s assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

      Listen up, Republican “girlie men”.  The Republican former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger made the following public statement directed at you foolish, selfish, anti-science folks during a televised interview on CNN on August 11, 2021:

“Holy Bat-Change Batman!”

     As a people, we have been intentionally targeted and displaced for the benefit of others. Whether you believe that Africans were already on this soil in the 1600s, endured the Middle Passage during the Transatlantic Slave trade across the Atlantic Ocean, or a combination of the two, it can be agreed upon that our overall position was lowered because of someone else’s plan. Over centuries, indigenous people with indigenous lifestyles have been a target for those that desired to dominate and control the minds of the masses.
