     I had the privilege of knowing Congressman Hastings as the people’s champion from working at the Westside Gazette since 1985. As the Gazette is the heart of the Historically Black community in Fort Lauderdale and the Congressman was the people’s knight in shining armor, I had ample opportunities to see him interact with the community. It seemed that he showed up to every occasion that he was invited to because he knew his presence made a difference. He supported so many organizations with his own funds. In a community where people could have become jaded from so many empty and broken promises over many years, Congressman Hastings gave the people someone to believe in. They knew he was on their side and would use his power and position to help them all he could.

       Dr. Fauci told CNN that there are two options for America. “We can either continue to be at citizen’s throats about their public health measures or we can get many people vaccinated as quickly as possible”.

     Florida A&M University’s second annual Day of Giving, “1887Strikes,” raised $459,549.19 in gifts from 2,800 donors. The gifts represent a 215 percent increase over the 2020 campaign.

      Political powerhouse Shirley Chisholm’s barrier-breaking contributions will forever be embedded in the fabric of history and an effort has been launched to memorialize her legacy. According to Roll Call, a bill for the creation of a statue of Chisholm—that would live inside of the United States Capitol—has been introduced.

    Cancer is a term that describes a collection of related diseases. Cancer occurs when some of the body’s cells divide continuously and begin to invade surrounding cells. Cancerous cells can start anywhere in the body and spread to localized regions and then to distant parts away from the site of origin. When cancer cells begin in the region of the prostate – a gland in the male reproductive system that produces and contains seminal fluid – it is called prostate cancer.

St. John Missionary Baptist Church worships outside on Easter Sunday

     On March 15, the Collin County, Texas Sheriff’s office put out a release stating, “On Sunday, March 14, 2021, 26-year-old Marvin D. Scott III of Frisco, Texas, died while in custody at the Collin County Detention Facility. Officers from the Allen Police Department arrested Mr. Scott earlier that day and transported him to the county jail. The Sheriff referred the matter to the Texas Rangers, who are investigating this death. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff placed seven detention employees on administrative leave and ordered an internal administrative investigation. The Sheriff’s Office will not release additional information while the Texas Rangers are investigating.”
