     “When it comes to major policy change, too often we only speak with elected officials like me,” Tempe Mayor Corey Woods stated in a news release. “It’s important that when we talk about the needs of the next generation, we actually include them in these conversations. That is why I am proud to support the Next Generation Bridge Forum. This event will place a much-needed spotlight on the voices of young leaders who are out in the community making change in unique ways. I look forward to learning the different perspectives of these six exceptionally impressive panelists.”

     “Especially during this time of isolation, uncertainty, and tragedy, it is vital that no one feels alone in their mental health journey,” emphasized Gillison. “The COVID-19 crisis shines a spotlight on our need for social connectedness and our need for real mental health resources. we need to raise awareness to change our fragmented mental health system into one that serves everyone, so people can get the care they need.”

      This week, former vice president Joe Biden formally accepted the Democratic nomination for president and Kamala Harris accepted her role as his running mate. Now that it’s clear that the 2020 elections will be Biden versus Donald Trump — who’s running for reelection on the Republican ticket — activists are solidifying their positions before November.

     That’s why it feels so sticky to celebrate the 19th Amendment today. Fighting for a place at the polls has been a multi-century battle for women—women of color in particular. Restrictions prohibited Latina, Black, Asian-American, and Native-American women from voting until decades after the 19th Amendment was ratified. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 helped put a ballot in the hands of more women of color, but it didn’t solve the problem of long queues, restrictive voter ID laws, early closing times, or breakdowns in modern machinery, which can lead many voters—especially those in marginalized communities—to turn their backs on the polls, as we witnessed during the Georgia state primary.
