A group founded by NBA superstar LeBron James and other Black athletes and entertainers is stepping into the fight to register Florida voters with felony records, saying it will help pay court debts and fees so they can cast ballots in the November presidential election.

   Most of the people on the playground were high school students and a few community activists. Just Dr. King’s presence was enough to make you feel special. At that time, I wondered, why would a man of Dr. King’s stature care about what happened in Greenwood, Mississippi to Colored People. That questioned was answered as I grew older and realized that what was happening in Greenwood, Mississippi was happening to Black people all over the United States and the World for that matter. Little did I realize that that one day in Greenwood, Mississippi would change the total trajectory of my entire life. At the meeting, he talked about how important it was for us to make sure we register to vote and that we had to assist each other with the process. Plus, as young people, we did not have the same heightened since of fear as the older adults in the town – same as today.

         Home going celebration was held for Willie Edward Allen on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Mt. Hermon AME Church in Fort Lauderdale where he served faithfully as a trustee, steward, on the usher board, finance committee and choir member (#3). Born on January 4, 1934 in Lake City Florida, his formative education was completed in the Lake City School System, subsequently graduating from Richardson High School in 1954 as class president.

Recently, She the People released the 2020 National Women of Color Agenda Survey on what the Democratic Party and Joe Biden campaign can do to inspire turnout in November. With less than 100 days until the election, the poll taps into the key determinant of the presidential election: voter enthusiasm and potential turnout. The poll surveyed 557 top women of color in politics — from elected officials to state grassroots leaders to voter turnout program directors — with representation from across racial lines, age, and sexual orientation.
