       For me, this is more than a matter of education — it’s a matter of spirit. Too many have taken knowledge without understanding and turned it into pride when God calls us to serve with humility. I write this because true leadership must be guided by the Holy Spirit, not by degrees or titles.

Broward College has a new leader with deep community roots and a national résumé. In February 2025, Torey Alston was named the eighth permanent president and CEO of Broward College, returning to the community that raised him to lead one of the most important educational institutions in South Florida.

The city is grieving the loss of Dr. Gordon Merritt, D.D.S., a man whose life and work left an indelible mark on this community. Dr. Merritt, who practiced dentistry for more than 53 years on Sistrunk Boulevard, passed away this week. He will be remembered not only for his professional excellence but also for his humility, generosity, and love for people.

       The sinking of a boat allegedly carrying drugs from Venezuela has turned out to have ominous political and military implications. President Trump has taken the entirely illegal (and irrational) step of authorizing the US military to issue shoot-to-kill orders against suspected drug smugglers.

        It’s time, it’s time, it’s time to dump Trump!  It’s time to dump Trump and all Republicans, and other elected officials, who support the President’s illegal, immoral, and devilish political objectives.

       Once again this misogynistic racist seizes an opportunity to silence a strong Black woman. Strong Black women have long been a thorn in the side of Donald Trump because has no respect for Black folks of any kind.
