       Now in its final months, the Biden-Harris administration has a chance to cement its powerful legacy on the environment. Congress returns for its so-called lame duck session on November 12. The administration should pull out all the stops to work with Congress and use the powers of the presidency to get some more big things done.

       The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) took effect in 2024, requiring over 30 million businesses to either submit a beneficial ownership report to the U.S. Department of Treasury or claim an exemption. Unless they qualify for a specific exemption, January 1, 2025, is the final filing deadline for businesses formed before 2024.

       As Americans live longer, the ability to remain financially independent is an ongoing struggle. Especially for Black and other people of color whose lifetime incomes are often lower than that of other contemporaries, finding money to save for ‘old age’ is particularly daunting.

        COVID-19 and influenza cases across Florida are expected to rise in November and doctors are urging people to get the new COVID booster shot and the flu vaccine as soon as possible.

       “If you come from a household where you saw your parents live paycheck to paycheck, you may emulate those behaviors,” Payton says. “To address the challenges of living paycheck to paycheck, individuals must adopt proactive measures to improve their financial well-being.”

       As Americans vote in the presidential elections on Tuesday an overwhelming number of Caribbean community and political activists and legislators in New York are urging Caribbean nationals to cast ballots for Vice-President Kamala Harris, the daughter of retired Jamaican economist Dr. Donald Harris, saying she is the better candidate to be the next president of the United States.

       Milton, which made landfall in early October, close on the heels of the Category 5 Hurricane Helene, damaged many of the same Florida communities, primarily on or near the Gulf Coast. Mental health providers described patients who, barely scraping by financially before the storm, were now confronting cataclysmic damage from flooding or fallen trees. People without the money to evacuate, who’d ridden out dangerous hurricanes in mobile homes. And then, after Milton dissipated, an increase in nightmares, overwhelming anxiety symptoms, and other indicators of post-traumatic stress.

The 22nd Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival (GJJF) is set to spice up Miramar Regional Park  with the biggest Caribbean feast of the year on November 10, 2024.         The narrative of the absence of Black fathers has been overblown.  It has been perpetuated over the decades even with statistics to show the contrary. Since 1976, more resident fathers were in Black households in 2023 than any year in between.  According to the National Fatherhood Initiative,  “children who grow up with their dads are more likely to thrive physically, emotionally, and socially than are children who grow up without their dads.”
