        Sending the police to a Black person’s home is never a good idea even with the best intentions. We have read stories of family calling police for help with a family member, only for the help to turn into a home-going service.

   Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders became the first NCAA football player to sign an NIL (name, image, and likeness) deal with Nike on Wednesday. The footwear and apparel deal for the projected first-round draft pick comes on the eve of Sanders’ final college football season and brings him firmly into the fold of what he calls the “family business.”

Housing Authority of Pompano Beach (HAPB) will be celebrating the groundbreaking of Provident Place, an affordable senior housing community, as the first phase of the multi-phase revitalization of Golden Acres (USDA) in Pompano Beach. Construction is expected to take 13-months, with final community completion by Summer 2025.

       FatMan Scoop, the Grammy-winning DJ and hypeman who got fans roaring whether he was performing at a Clippers game or taking the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, died Friday, his family said. He was 53.

       Topline Walmart voluntarily recalled almost 10,000 cases of its Great Value brand apple juice due to concerns of high arsenic levels, a recall the Food and Drug Administration upgraded because the products may cause temporary adverse events, though the agency hasn’t shared any reports of illnesses.

       Black and Hispanic workers at a Florida construction company who endured racial and ethnic slurs and were given “degrading” assignments were awarded $1.6 million in a settlement of a civil rights lawsuit filed on their behalf by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

       According to local ABC affiliate WZVN, Baxter is suing Americans for Prosperity (AFP), alleging his supervisor used racially insensitive language during recent canvassing operation. Baxter’s suit claims that while on a call with an AFP staffer, she repeatedly referred to Baxter, who is Black, as “a slave.”

       On one occasion, a group of Black employees had to work in the pouring rain while white workers sat in the company’s cars until the rain stopped, according to a lawsuit filed by the agency. The “white workers watched” as they worked, the EEOC said.

       Raised in D.C.’s historic Shaw area, Dr. Cunningham’s early exposure to science came from a deeply personal source—his grandmother, a cancer researcher who played a pivotal role in sparking his lifelong passion for molecular biology. “I was exposed to science at an early age from my grandmother, a cancer researcher,” Cunningham said before his 30-minute discussion with National Newspaper Publishers Association President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr., the host of the Chavis Chronicles. “She sparked in me that intellectual curiosity of what caused a cancer cell to be a cancer cell. It’s fascinating to me.”
