Mexico City, one of the world’s largest urban centers, faces an impending water crisis with potentially dire consequences. The metropolis, home to over 21 million people, is on the brink of running out of water within months. A confluence of factors, including overpopulation, aging infrastructure, climate change, and water mismanagement, has exacerbated the situation.

The Old Dillard Museum houses historical Black artifacts that are near and dear to the history of Broward County. Being the first public school built for Black children in Fort Lauderdale, it is the historical storehouse of educational excellence of the Black community. Recently, a new exhibit was added to this museum to honor the late Attorney W. George Allen titled “From Brown To Broward”.

Immediately after taking office in 2021, President Joe Biden committed to supporting minority populations by adopting an executive order promoting environmental and economic justice. In his order, the president pledged, “To secure an equitable economic future, the United States must ensure that environmental and economic justice are key considerations in how we govern.” In our Glades communities, which are so heavily dependent on jobs in agriculture, it seems recent federal actions related to providing water for our local businesses may conflict with the president’s ambitious goals.
