     Black History is grounded on the land, in the buildings and artifacts protected in America’s National Park System. The System is spread out across the country and includes many of the places where our ancestors were instrumental in the exploration, development and defense of our country. On this second leg of our tour we walk through a timeline of some of the most significant events from 1776 to 1865.

     Peter “Peetah” Morgan, the lead singer in the contemporary reggae outfit Morgan Heritage, died yesterday (February 25), The Associated Press reports, confirming a statement on the band’s social media. No cause of death was given. Morgan was 46-years-old.

     Regina Jollivette Frazier, an esteemed leader on Breakthrough Miami’s board of directors, died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2024. Her legacy is one of impactful contributions, notable achievements and unwavering dedication to excellence. Known as a powerful force for education equity, rigor and enriching experiences, Frazier’s influence extended throughout the Breakthrough Youth Village, South Florida and the nation.

     Retired Miami Herald Editorial Page Editor Nancy Ancrum, who kept a watchful eye on Florida governors and South Florida leaders, gave voice to those who had been silenced and guided her team to two Pulitzer Prizes, died Friday after a long illness.      It caught your attention because – who, besides politicians, utilities, and creditors sends anything in the mail these days? Still, it was a nice surprise, no matter what, like a throwback or something. And like the new book, “Dear Black Girls” by A’Ja Wilson, every letter means something.
