When it comes to hockey, Blake Bolden is no stranger to shattering “ice ceilings.” Coined the Jackie Robinson of Women’s hockey, Bolden became the first Black woman to play in the now-defunct National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) in 2015, and five years later, in 2020, the first Black woman to become a scout for professional ice hockey team the Los Angeles Kings.

 Edward Waters University is a private Christian-based HBCU in Jacksonville, Florida, founded in 1866 by African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) members as a school to educate the newly freed black people and their children. In 2019, the university was invited to join the SIAC, a historic Division II HBCU athletic conference. The 2024 season will see Edward Waters become full members of the SIAC and NCAA Division II after their three-year mandated transitional period after moving from the NAIA. In a major win for the Seminole Tribe, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to upend a 30-year, multibillion-dollar deal giving the tribe control of sports betting throughout Florida.

     The social-media ruling likely will decide whether Florida can carry out a 2021 state law that placed restrictions on platforms such as Facebook and X. The gun ruling in a Texas case could help determine the fate of a 2018 Florida law that barred people under age 21 from buying rifles and shotguns.

Armbrister.  A portrait bust of the esteemed teacher, activist, and historian will be unveiled during a special event organized by Reverend Marguerite Kelley Luster, Armbrister’s sister, and the dedicated team at Rock Road Restoration Historical Group.
