Crist bill expands scholarships for Sickle Cell research

    Congressman Charlie Crist, (D) Florida, has proposed legislation to step up life-saving research and loan repayment for those joining the fight against Sickle Cell Disease. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is the result of genetic mutation that reduces the ability of blood cells to transport oxygen throughout the body. Considered a childhood disease where individuals did not survive until adulthood, patients are now living longer and are at high risk because of the lack of research. Sisters of the Skies and Delta Air Lines Host Fundraiser for Future Black Female Pilots

     The purpose of the gala is to seek to improve the current number of Black female pilots which stands north of 150 in the United States for those holding Airline Transport Pilot, Commercial, Military and or Certified Flight instructor licenses. The first gala was held in February 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia honoring the first All-African American Female flight crew. Research Findings:  IRS Audits the Poor at a Rate Five Times Higher Than the Rest of the Population
