     Roughly 80 percent of Americans live in urban areas and roughly 80 percent of those city dwellers live neighborhoods with less than 20 percent tree cover. And those places with minimal tree canopy experience significantly higher temperatures than green neighborhoods just miles away. That’s true in big cities like Newark and New Orleans and smaller ones like Burlington, Vt., and Erie, Pa.

     I don’t care where you live in the north, south, east, or west, if you glance at everyone’s feet, someone will be wearing flip-flops. You’ll see them in Walmart, in the Dollar Store and you’ll even see flip-flops in high-end boutique malls.

A U.S. district judge Monday rejected a lawsuit alleging that a Florida voter-registration form violates federal law because it does not properly inform convicted felons about eligibility to vote.

     A committee appointed by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos Muniz will hold its first meeting Friday to begin looking at consolidation in the 20-circuit system. Muniz issued an order June 30 appointing the committee after receiving a request from Renner.

     In a news release Monday, the faculty union called on Chancellor Ray Rodrigues to allow FAU’s search to “continue unhindered or to immediately resign from his position.”
