Millennium Middle School Intern Principal Dr. Henry Brown is this year’s keynote speaker for the annual Carrie P. Meek Outstanding Education Leadership Achievement Award Ceremony, “Preserving Our Heritage through Educational Excellence,” on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at 6 p.m., at the Signature Grand, 6900 State Road 84, Davie.

Keynote speaker Dr. Brown, a former Broward County Teacher of the Year, has been recognized as Florida’s Teacher of the Year and as a National Teacher of the Year Finalist. His enthusiasm and passion for education are reflected in the many leadership roles he has undertaken and his numerous awards of achievement, which include the JM Family African-American Achievement Award, USA Today All-Star Teacher, Nova Southeastern University Educator of the Year and many other awards and honors.

The achievement award ceremony is a Black History Month celebration hosted by the Black Heritage Council of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Fischler School of Education and Human Ser-vices. The awards are held in honor of former Congress-woman Carrie P. Meek’s work as a lifelong educator and public servant, and draw hundreds of educators, government officials and community leaders from the tri-county area each year. The event is a salute to exemplary community leaders and students who continuously and positively impact the lives of African-Americans in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
