FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is accepting applications for the 2012-2013 Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program which is open to Broward County high school students who are interested in the performing arts.

During the last school year, Broward Center Teen Ambassadors received an insider’s view at an arts organization that is consistently ranked in the top 10 venues in the world.  Activities included working backstage with the crew of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, participating in a dance workshop with the cast members of Step Afrika and seeing 34 performances from every genre including Broadway, ballet, opera and classical music.  Along the way, the students wrote in excess of 150 reviews and used social media including Facebook and Twitter to discuss their experiences with approximately 3,000 friends.

Limited to 24 participants, the program is held from October 2012 through May 2013.  Each participant will receive a Broward Center Teen Ambassador I.D. badge and earn community service hours.

Applicants must be a high school student in Broward County as of August 22, 2012, attend and review at least one performance per month for which tickets will be provided by the Broward Center, attend one meeting per month at the Broward Center during the school year, maintain a minimum “B” average and have access to a computer and at least one social media account.

To apply to the 2012-2013 Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program, interested students must complete the Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program application, which must be signed by a parent or legal guardian,  and submit a copy of their 11-12 school year report cards. Applicants must also include a letter of recommendation from some-one associated with an educational arts program such as a teacher, school counselor or principal.

Applications are available online and will be accepted through Sept. 14, by 5 p.m. and those accepted into the program will be notified by Oct. 5.   Visit www.BrowardCenter.org/teenambassador, call (954) 468-2689 or email teenambassador@browardcenter.org for more information.
