FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (February 18, 2019) Broward College and Florida Children’s Theatre (FLCT) have teamed up in a new partnership that will increase performance opportunities and student engagement for both organizations.

Effective January 1, 2020, Florida Children’s Theatre will move onto Broward College’s A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie, after renovating facilities to create a state-of-the-art performing arts center with additional classroom, rehearsal and performance spaces which will be shared by both organizations.  Internship opportunities, as well as joint programming in arts education, will benefit students from both educational organizations and the greater community. Additionally, Broward College will expand its Performing and Cultural Arts Theatre (PCA) at the Judson A. Samuels South Campus in Pembroke Pines to give even more design and performance opportunities to students countywide.

“This opportunity will allow us to engage more with both current and potential students,” said Steven Gross, executive director of marketing and strategic initiatives at Broward College. “By providing access to a wider range of events, we will also be giving them more reasons to visit our campuses and learn firsthand about Broward College. We will also be leveraging our infrastructure to offer support to community programs.”

Recognized as the first children’s theatre in Florida, award-winning FLCT provides more than 25,000 individuals a year with accessible arts programming. Each season, it produces Family Series and Teen Repertory productions, circus arts, and second stage performances, as well as year-round theatre classes and summer camps. Providing over $80,000 in scholarship support each year, and continuing their commitment that money never be a barrier to participation, the central location will allow greater participation from all parts of Broward County and beyond, while providing a long-term location for this cultural icon.

“FLCT’s mission is to teach the art of life through the magic of theatre,” said Janet Erlick, executive artistic director. “This mutually beneficial partnership to create a safe, secure, and modern facility will truly transform lives and impact our shared community for generations to come. We are thrilled to call Broward College home for many years to come.”
