Broward Health and community partners host Back-to-school Summer Immunization Pep Day

     By Jennifer Smith

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – In recognition of National Health Center Week, Broward Health Community Health Services (BHCHS), the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders and the Florida Panthers Lady Panthers, in partnership with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections, are co-hosting a Back-to-School Summer Immunization Pep Day at the Cora E. Braynon Family Health Center, formerly known as the Seventh Avenue Family Health Center, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16.

At the Back-to-School Summer Immunization Pep Day, children and their families will have access to required immunizations and school physicals for the upcoming school year, while being safeguarded against preventable diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough), measles, rubella, influenza and other infectious diseases. The event is the culmination of Mobilize to Immunize, a series of summer immunization fairs hosted by BHCHS that began in June.

In addition to school physicals and immunizations, community resources will offer health screenings, health coverage information, HIV/AIDS testing, entertainment, free hair styling and school supplies for families attending the event. Spanish- and Creole-speaking families will be assisted by BHCHS’ diverse staff.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for our local community,” said Dr. Maxine James-Francis, site administrator of Broward Health’s Cora E. Braynon Family Health Center. “We look forward to providing necessary healthcare services and pertinent information to young families, and creating a festive atmosphere with the Lady Panthers and Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders.”

The Cora E. Braynon Family Health Center is located at 200 N.W. 7th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. For more information, call (954) 712-3977.
