Broward Health to host ‘Back to School Health and Resource Fair’

    By Jennifer Smith

FORT LAUDERDALE,  FL – Broward Health Community Health Services will host a Back to School Health and Resource Fair to provide immunizations and physicals that children must have before returning to school. The fair is a culmination of multiple immunization events that began in June.

Broward Health, the City of Fort Lauderdale, Walmart and the Broward County Supervisor of Elections are collaborating on the event. Various community resources will be available to build awareness and provide health screening services close to home. Broward Health’s multi-lingual staff of health care professionals will be available for Spanish and Creole speaking families. The fair will be held Aug. 18, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Seventh Avenue Family Health Center, 200 NW Seventh Ave., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“We look forward to this worthwhile event. It is always good to be able to bring value-added resources into our community, especially for children,” said Tracy Roach, aide to Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Bobby Dubose.

Broward Health Community Health Services is promoting the Back to School Health and Resource Fair to several youth-focused organizations, including the School Board of Broward County, the Department of Health, Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, the City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department and local daycare centers, to safeguard children against preventable diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough), measles, rubella, influenza and other infectious diseases prevalent among school age children.  For more information, call (954) 712-3977 or visit BrowardHealth.org.
