Building. Relevant. Inclusive. Dedicated. Generational. Egyptians is the ethos by which the new administration of the historic Beta Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity stands firmly. Led by two highly regarded and respected jurists in South Florida, Attorney Reginald Mathis and the Honorable Daryl Trawick have many accomplishments, and both stand ready to take Beta Beta Lambda to the next level. The Beta Beta Lambda Chapter, seated in Miami, Florida, is the local chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity which is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. Some of the most prominent members of Alpha Phi Alpha include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois, Roland Martin, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Reginald Mathis, the new President of the Beta Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, was inspired to join Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity by the incomparable Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first African American justice to serve on the Supreme Court. In reflecting on the legacy of the great men of Alpha Phi Alpha, such as Thurgood Marshall, Mathis contemplates on the responsibility that being an Alpha entails, “being an Alpha means you have big shoes to fill,” Mathis says, “you’re a man of distinction, and people look to you for solution-oriented, solution-filled leadership.”

Mathis is not a stranger to exemplary leadership; he founded his law firm in 2003, focusing on criminal, personal injury, and entertainment law. In 2006, Attorney Mathis was elected to the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Florida Bar Executive Counsel, where he served for several years.

He later became in-house counsel for International Music Group and Strong-Arm Management, comprised of International recording artists Flo Rida, Baby Soldier, Natalie LaRose, International Nephew, Fresh Colay, Oya Baby, and Humble Tay. Through his representation, Mathis has yielded lucrative and record settlements, ensuring the best possible outcomes for his clients.

Now serving as President of the 146th House of Alpha, a chapter founded in 1937, Mathis has new challenges as he looks to extend upon the past successes of the illustrious Fraternity. He plans to ignite the membership toward our Fraternity’s aims: manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind. This is all driven by his deep desire to give back to the community after being underestimated and counted out in his youth. He hopes to inspire the next generation through his leadership of the Fraternity through service and sacrifice.

To carry out this vision, Mathis has one of the most revered leaders in our community, serving as Vice President – none other than the Honorable Daryl Trawick. Judge Trawick, a committed and humble man, served our country proudly as a J.A.G. (Military Attorney) in the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring after 23 years of active and reserve duty. During his time in the Air Force Reserve, he was appointed to serve as a military judge. As evidenced by these experiences, it is Judge Trawick’s passion to serve others which drives his work.

Similarly, to Attorney Mathis, Trawick understands the responsibility of serving as a model for the community and being a change maker. In presiding over civilian and military court cases, Judge Trawick brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to his role as the new Vice President of the Beta Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is excited to make his impact in what he calls “an unmatchable Brotherhood.”

The new Executive Board consists of leaders excelling in their expertise who will hone their skills to add tremendous value to the Fraternity. Mr. Aaron Beharie serves as Secretary; Mr. Fletcher Paschal serves as Treasurer; Mr. Joseph S. Gay serves as Financial Secretary; Mr. Deontre’ Clayton serves as Dean of Membership; Mr. Anthony Stuart serves as Corresponding Secretary; Mr. Anderson Eldridge serves as Director of Educational Activities; Dr. Dakary Davis serves as Sergeant at Arms; Mr. Steve Serrano serves as Parliamentarian; Mr. John B. Riley serves as Historian; Janus Wesley, serves as Chaplain; and Dr. Donald G. Nicolas serves as Associate Editor to the Sphinx.

Collectively, these men aspire to hold high the light of our dear Fraternity toward achieving the tenets of our mission to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities.
