The arrest comes as protests take place in many places around the nation, including in Los Angeles, where a crowd of pedestrians blocked the busy 101 Freeway, and in Minneapolis where Floyd was killed. “Chauvin (who, along with four other officers, was fired after the incident) was taken into custody,” Minneapolis Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said in a news release.

While the most of the country protests the police killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, protesters in Tallahassee were fueled by its own police killings. Three deadly police shootings since March 20 were at the center of a large protest in Tallahassee on Saturday. Police in Minnesota were being accused of killing an unarmed Black man after a viral video showed an officer pinning down a suspect as he repeated that he could not breathe. The Minneapolis Police Department was quick to announce that no weapons were involved in the man’s death it downplayed as a “medical incident,” but the video prompted speculation on social media of a brutality-induced “killing.”

Dr. William Alexander Morris was in the business of making people feel better for over a half century in Fort Lauderdale, and he did so with a quiet dignity and seriousness of purpose, which reflected his mission in life. Dr. Morris passed away May 13, 2020. He was 87.
