The COVID-19 vaccines that are administered into our bodies will mimic the body’s natural immune response. Our immune system will “see” the fake microbe that the vaccine has introduced into our bodies and will respond in the same manner as it does when a natural microbe invades our bodies. The vaccine’s decoy microbe will stimulate macrophages which will in turn stimulate T-cells and B-cells.
The resiliency of our community and our region has been put on display in the face of COVID-19, and again we have shown our strength in unity and our commitment to one another. As we move into a new phase of the pandemic, with a vaccine that is showing promise in helping us turn the corner against COVID-19, our strength and unity are more important than ever before.

A vaccine is a biological tool that trains the body to fight an infectious agent that it has not yet encountered. Vaccines allow our bodies to respond to and prevent an infection from leading to illness by mimicking the body’s natural immune response. Vaccines are designed to replicate the body’s ability to counteract foreign agents (microbes) that infect it.
The rollout of the medicine from Pfizer and Moderna featured heavy promotion. High-profile African Americans like former President Barack Obama, National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) Coronavirus Task Force Member Dr. Ebony Hilton, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson received their shots publicly.
