A Miami-Dade County circuit judge could face a public reprimand after an investigation concluded that he improperly commented on a motion to disqualify him from a case. An investigative panel of the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission recommended a reprimand for Circuit Judge Alberto Milian, according to documents posted Monday on the Florida Supreme Court website.

     U.S. Department of Justice attorneys, in a 36-page brief, argued that U.S. District Judge William Jung should deny a preliminary injunction sought by Florida and other plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed in May.

Victor G. Harvey, the owner of Black-owned Victor George Spirits will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 25 starting at 11:30 am.  This new building will be named The Victory Building after the historic Victory Theatre once located on historic Sistrunk Blvd.   The 15,000 square foot facility will house a distillery, restaurant, cigar bar, whiskey lounge, event space and a rooftop bar and lounge located at 1017 Sistrunk Boulevard.   Harvey will be joined by city and county officials for this event that is open to the public.

       The Biden Administration is considering reclassifying marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3, aligning it with substances like Tylenol with codeine, known for “moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence.” Currently grouped with LSD and heroin, this adjustment wouldn’t federally decriminalize marijuana, though it’s seen by some as a potential step in that direction.

     The 1st District Court of Appeal approved the state’s request for a stay of a ruling by Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper and rejected a suggestion by the Floridians Protecting Freedom political committee that the dispute be sent to the Supreme Court — a move that would have essentially skipped consideration of the case by the appeals court. Floridians Protecting Freedom is helping lead efforts to pass the abortion amendment.
