Broward Health and Miami Jewish Health plan to launch the Broward PACE Program, a new Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). A ribbon cutting was held for the new, 16,000-square-foot center in Fort Lauderdale on March 14.      Most recently, Case led her Rick Case Cares team in volunteering to help every student at Broward Estates Elementary in Fort Lauderdale go “sole”-searching for that perfect pair of sneakers. Students walked away with an extra special spring in their step, choosing from an array of athletic shoes that fit their feet and personality. They also left with a pair of socks and a book.

This summer, Florida has opted out of receiving additional funding for the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Program, a decision that could leave millions of children in the state, without proper nutrition. The Summer EBT Program aims to bridge the nutritional gap for low-income families during the summer months when school is out. Participating families receive $120 per eligible child, distributed as $40 per month for three months, to purchase food from different stores.      Retribution for the heinous treatment of the slaves in the British colony of South Carolina arrived Sunday morning September 9th, 1739. South Carolina became a state in 1776 after the Revolutionary War. The online encyclopedia Black Past.org chronicled the rebellion, “Led by an Angolan named Jemmy, a band of 20 slaves organized a rebellion on the banks of the Stono River. After breaking into Hutchinson’s store the band, now armed with guns, called for their liberty. As they marched, overseers were killed and reluctant slaves were forced to join the company.”
