The Florida Department of Education announced Friday that more than 50 math textbooks have been rejected from the state’s curriculum for the coming school year, citing references to critical race theory as one of the reasons for the rejections. According to the announcement, references to critical race theory, “inclusions of Common Core,” and the “unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in mathematics” were among the reasons textbooks were rejected. 

Recently, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) announced that the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) is accepting applications for the 2022 United Health Foundation, Louis Stokes Health Scholarship Program, Ally Financial Law Scholars Program and Public Policy Scholars Program Scholarships, Stephen Feinberg Scholars Program and Multi-Year Program Scholarships, CBC Spouses Education Scholarships, CBC Spouses Essay Contest Scholarship, CBC Performing and Visual Arts Scholarships, and CBCF HBCU Scholarship. All qualified and motivated Black students who intend to pursue a degree within these fields are highly encouraged to apply.

As an organization of predominantly African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its membership, but also the families and communities we serve. The DeltaCare initiative is an internal wellness initiative under the programmatic thrust of Physical and Mental Health. It was created to promote self-care through physical wellness, emotional wellness, and awareness/advocacy. Specifically, the Red S.H.O.E. challenge is the physical health component of DeltaCare that encourages members to engage in healthy behaviors. S.H.O.E. is an acronym for Self-care, Healthy Options, and Exercise.
