Florida A&M University (FAMU) administrator Genyne Henry Boston, Ph.D., has been selected as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year.

  This collaborative project between FAMU and its partner Bisk, announced the launch of cybersecurity bootcamps that will prepare women and minorities — both underrepresented populations in the industry — for a career in the field of cybersecurity, specifically the practice of protecting networks, programs, and sensitive information from cyberattacks.

The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble hosted its 12th Annual Youth Pride Band Concert and captivated the audience in the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Amaturo Theater on Sunday, February 26.

     Peter Traceit has snooped that Board chair Alhadeff is not in a super rush to select a permanent superintendent.  Like a few other Board members, Alhadeff seems to be enjoying the calm after the storm that lasted the last two years.      The fight to lead the Florida Democratic Party boiled down to a tug of war for delegates between former Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and former state Senator Annette Taddeo.  But it was a third candidate, Rick Hoye, who pushed Nikki Fried over the top. Hoye, the Broward County DEC chairman talked to both candidates or their surrogates often.  But as the election day drew near, Hoye made the case for what he described as the obvious; the need for a serious strategy on Black voter engagement. 

Prosecutors will cross-examine Richard Murdaugh for the second time on Friday. A day after he took the stand and denied any involvement in the murders of his wife and son but admitted lying to investigators.

     Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn’t want the high school students who play on that field – at least the white ones – to know why. Other governors and elected officials, looking to capitalize on the racial resentment and white grievance DeSantis hopes will propel him into the White House, are following his lead. This insidious campaign is an effort not merely to warp Americans’ view of our past, but to thwart the dismantling of systemic and institutional racism.

The Freedmen’s Bureau [FB] was the federal government’s first attempt at a comprehensive social assistance program. At the end of the Civil war in 1865, the FB was created. Its goal was to facilitate the amalgamation of four million slaves into society. According to the National Archives: “The Bureau was established to undertake the relief effort and the unprecedented social reconstruction that would bring freedpeople to full citizenship.” The FB would best be described as the “8 Track Tape player,” of social services. It had great intentions, but after a few years it was ineffectual! In 1872 the FB was closed.
