       In December, the PGA Tour made a $500,000 donation to five Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including $100,000 to Prairie View A&M’s men’s and women’s golf teams. The PGA Tour made the Prairie View A&M donation in the name of Champ’s grandfather, Mack, who wanted to attend Prairie View A&M but went into the military instead.

     The three officers responsible for the murder of Breonna Taylor are not the first to walk free after killing an unarmed Black person, and unfortunately, especially if things continue as they are, they will not be the last. Things continuing as they are, includes the decision to only charge one Louisville police officer for the destruction of property, which sends the message that Black lives do not matter to law enforcement agencies.

     Grassroots efforts like the We Count Oregon campaign helped connect with hard-to-count communities across the state. Hard-to-count the state. Hard-to-count populations include Black and other people of color, people in rural communities, low-income communities, and immigrants. Organizers across Oregon and other states shifted during the pandemic in outreach to traditionally overlooked communities to ensure a more accurate count. 

     The Minnesota statute notes that second-degree manslaughter, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison or possibly a $20,000 fine, applies when a person causes someone’s death by culpable negligence and creates an unreasonable risk and consciously takes chances of causing death or great bodily harm.

     First, the Supreme Court’s new conservative majority issued a ruling that curtailed the impact of Miller v. Alabama, the court’s 2012 decision restricting life without parole for teenagers. Then, Evan Miller, the man whose name became synonymous with more than a thousand juvenile lifers having a chance to go home, was himself resentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
