     Shahidi’s new venture—dubbed 7th Sun—was created in partnership with her mother Keri Shahidi. The core of the company’s mission is to amplify the narratives of underrepresented groups. The mother-daughter duo says they want to create content that captures the essence of history, heritage and culture. Lajoie St. George will spearhead 7th Sun’s development. Through the partnership with ABC Studios they will produce an array of projects for cable, broadcast and streaming services.

Lillie Miller, who has been serving for 21 years in the Des Moines Police Department, has recently been promoted as the department’s captain. She has made history as the first Black woman to hold that rank in the city.

     The legislator, freedom fighter and justice warrior, who was famously beaten, bloodied, and arrested in Selma, Alabama — and in other cities across the Jim Crow South — during the struggle for civil rights and racial equality, was 80. His death came just hours after another the passing of another civil rights icon, Rev. C.T. Vivian, who was 95.

According to the “Strike for Black Lives” website, organizers were looking to achieve four results from their demands: “higher wages, better jobs” that include healthcare for all,  elected officials using their power to make that happen, businesses doing their part “to dismantle racism, white supremacy, and economic exploitation wherever it exists including in our workplaces,” and supporting unions and “the immediate implementation of a $15/hour minimum wage, fully-funded healthcare coverage and paid sick leave for all.”

     Athlete and mogul Serena Williams has continually used her platform as an avenue to uplift underrepresented groups and spread awareness about issues impacting marginalized communities. According to Black Enterprise, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the tennis star is putting the focus on supporting Black-owned businesses that have been significantly impacted by the public health crisis.

     Lucas’ order requires residents of Kansas City wearing facial coverings in all indoor public spaces and “while performing an activity which will necessarily involve close contact or proximity to co-workers or the public where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.”

Rehan Staton, a 24-year old man from Maryland who used to collect garbage to support his studies, has recently graduated from college and is now heading to Harvard Law School despite all the hardships he experienced.

Six-year-old Kelly Boston-Hill wanted to help other kids and do something a little different for her birthday. So, she hosted a “Contactless – Social Distancing” Book Drive to benefit a non-profit organization called The Book Fairies. Her efforts have been so successful that she has been able to collect and donate more than 5,000 books. The organization has named her a Book Fairy Jr. and she has been named one of the Long Island Nets “Heroes of Long Island” for being so kind.
