As I write these words, the mercury is soaring. The world is reeling from the deadly impact of extreme heat and weather events. This is climate change in action. We are living it. And the thermometer-busting temperatures are just the tip of the (melting) iceberg.
It’s also a chance for us, as members of a democratic republic. How? By setting expectations for ourselves and our leaders. A peek at our neurobiology can help us make this debate something we learn from rather than something that divides us further.

Klingenstein’s lecture is a collection of straw man fallacies, by which one misrepresents or exaggerates an opponent’s position so that it can be easily attacked. In effect, one rebuts an argument that is never made. His portrayal of the Democrat’s border policy is a good example.
We get crumbs in return for our vote. Placing Blacks in administrations has the appearance of political payoffs to the Black base, but they in no way have actual power. Notice where real economics is concerned, you see no Black people on the money! Biden talks to Black people about jobs (a lingering 1960s tact continued because it works) but nothing about economic opportunities for Black people who are segregated from the financial sector of society. There is no quid pro quo relationship between the political party and the persons Black people vote for; what we get in return for our vote is miniscule, at best, and does not equal the value of our vote.
Therefore, as unthinkable as it may seem, the imperative of jailing Trump becomes clear. It is a necessary step to safeguard our democracy. Once he’s behind bars, the true extent of his actions and threat to our democratic values will be revealed.

The major issues in the European Parliament (EP) elections were the Ukraine war, immigration, and the costs of a green transition. Just as is true here, each of those issues is highly divisive. The war finds the French, the Germans, the Poles, and the Baltic countries pushing for more aid to Ukraine, while Hungary heads a much smaller group that tends to side with Russia.
