Though former Vice-President Joe Biden maintains a relatively stable polling lead over President Donald Trump, there’s still good reason to prepare for a contested election. For months, President Trump has generated a steady stream of disinformation about mail-in voting, falsely associating it with high levels of voter fraud, and there’s no reason to think that the disinformation campaign will end when election results start coming in on November 3.
The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is about to win its 50th state ratification, the golden number needed for the treaty to enter into force. The list of 47 current signatories can be seen at ICANw.org, website of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize-winning coalition that helped navigate the treaty.
THE ANTI-RACIST REVOLUTION
The brittle patriotism of whites who feel threatened by the looming certainty that they will soon be a minority in our country provides much of the energy behind the cult of Trump. Whatever constructive structural changes we may make to our system after he goes, none will be more important than those that result in racial equity and acknowledgement of entrenched white privilege. Black Lives Matter is nested in a bigger context: Democracy Matters.
Back in 2016, while campaigning for president, Donald Trump discovered a useful tactic for drawing the votes of disgruntled blue-collar workers: denouncing the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs and promising to restore them. At a rally in hard-hit Ohio, he assailed the Democrats and assured his listeners that he would turn the state into a “manufacturing behemoth.” Speaking in Detroit, he pledged “to restore manufacturing in the United States.” Addressing a campaign rally in Warren, Michigan, he declared: “If I’m elected . . . you won’t lose one plant, I promise you that.”
Once we recognize the interdependence of the world, we can shape a better future
There is injustice in America. There is discrimination. There is a legacy of racism and inequality that lives still in our institutions, our laws, and in too many people’s hearts that makes it harder for Black people to succeed. These are facts in the United States of America in 2020, and we must all do more to move our nation closer to the ideals inlaid at our founding—that all women and men are created equal.
Reparations can’t free slave mind
It’s amazing how simple equations and formulas can help people understand basic aspects about reality. For example, no one questions Einstein’s equation, Energy =mc2, or the formula for water = H2O. Consequently, one should be able to combine and identify certain elements of human behavior to determine if specific violation of social or political norms defines insanity. Hence, has Trumpism and his voting cult regressed to a level of insanity whereby they’re becoming a danger to themselves, other people and the Nation?
