Unfortunately, America has been suffering from a virus far more dangerous than Covid-19, and clearly, it should be called Trumpovid-45. Covid-19 has killed more than 100,000, people and thousands more will die. But Trump is on course to destroy our democracy, not to mention his destruction of the “Rule of Law.
It’s About Time
Wearing a mask must start from the top, it is simple and easy to do. Our President should lead by example. It is a simple strategy that will help contain the virus, and Americans will see it as something important. Everyone can start with their family by explaining to the members why it is important when they are in the public to wear a mask.
America is purging the public domain of racist symbols and rhetoric. Augusta, Georgia must do its part by removing racist symbols and ostracizing public personalities who foment racial division.
The time has long passed to heal Americas’ illegal practice of Institutionalized Racism. There should only be but One America to serve all of the citizens of the United States of America.
If you criticize the few low life looters and arsonist who blend in with peaceful protesters but do not criticize the rogue cops who beat, maim, and kill protesters you are a hypocrite. TRUMP and his law-and-order posse are hypocrites. In a way, so are the honest protesters who put their lives on the line, during a pandemic, by not taking the next most important step, registering and voting.
By now, we all have had to quickly adjust to the challenges resulting from Covid-19, a viral pandemic that has brought about health and economic crises of grave proportions, particularly impacting our elderly and Black and brown lives. While doing so, unfortunately, President Trump has managed to turn this viral threat into a weapon of opportunity to push forth broader political agendas while dividing the nation along partisan lines.
n the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd and countless other Black Americans at the hands of police officers, Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley and Allentown City Councilman Joshua Siegel spoke with Allentown Black Lives Matter (BLM) organizers to unite and work together on finding solutions to prevent further loss of life, protect residents, strengthen standards, and improve the quality of Lehigh Valley police departments.
Recently the Equity Leadership Steering Committee associated with an almost entirely white school district in Maine came out with a strong letter asking citizens to acknowledge not just the anodyne “white privilege,” but the actual “white supremacy” pervasive in our nation. Not unexpectedly, they received some kickback. Fortunately, the Superintendent of Schools had the courage to back them up.
