Charles W. Follis, also known as “The Black Cyclone,” was a trailblazing athlete born on Feb. 3, 1879. He became the first Black professional American football player. Follis played for the Shelby Blues in the “Ohio League” from 1902 to 1906.

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the departure of Coach Willie Simmons from his position as Florida A&M University Head Football Coach. Coach Simmons has been an integral part of our athletics program, and I am both proud and sad to see him go.
With the departure of Willie Simmons for Duke University, Florida A&M has embarked on a search for the new head coach of the national champion football team. It shouldn’t look far, he’s right under their noses. Billy Rolle should be the next head football coach at FAMU.

On the leg of Jason Sanders, who kicked 5 field goals, 3 of which were over 50 yards, and the arm of Tua Tagovailoa, who completed 4 of 5 passes for 31 yards on the final game -clinching drive, the Dolphins disarmed the fears of several skeptics, including yours truly, desiring a victory of this magnitude. Running back Jeff Wilson’s 14 rushing yards on 3 carries also proved significant.
