Celebrating the Life of Annie Bell Whitfield Bouie

 August 1, 1929 – May 21, 2020

Annie Bell Whitfield Bouie was born on a farm on August 1, 1929 to Dwellie and Eloise Whitfield in Mount Vernon, Georgia.  Upon completing her formal education, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1947 to explore new opportunities. Shortly after arriving in Florida, she met Eula Clarence Bouie (deceased 1999). Mr. Bouie, a handsome young cab driver, was fondly known to everyone as “Buddy”. Immediately their friendship blossomed, and they were married on January 2, 1948. To this union two children were born, Gail Elease Bouie and Patricia Ann Bouie (deceased 1977).

Over the past 70 years as a citizen of Broward County, Annie (also fondly known as Honey) was actively involved in church, civic and community organizations. She previously served as: President for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Negro Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Venus Club, where she served in several leadership roles; and a devoted member of the Northwest Federated Woman’s Club, Dorsey Riverbend Homeowners Association, Rosebud Court #248 Heroines of Jericho and the Zeta Amicae of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She also actively served as a poll worker for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections until she became ill.

Ann accepted God as her personal savior at an early age. Following her move to Fort Lauderdale, she became a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church. She served under the leadership of Rev. Robert Lee, Rev. George Weaver, Dr. Mack King Carter, and Dr. Marcus D. Davidson and was an active member for over 60 years until she became ill and was no longer able to attend church. During her active years, she was a faithful member of the Adult Mass Choir and Mamie Joe Gray Circle #2.

Ann was known for her tireless energy and determination. After the death of her daughter, Patricia, through God’s grace and family support, she turned her attention and motivation to starting her own business. In 1978, she launched Ann Bouie’s Catering Service and catered for many special events in Broward County for over 15 years. She was fondly known in the community for her “sweet potato pies”.

She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love for dancing and always sporting one of her “awesome hats”. She loved shopping and spending time with her family, extended family, and friends. Ann was loved by many because of her dedication, straightforwardness, and humor.

Left to cherish her legacy and precious memories: daughter, Gail Elease Bouie of Lauderhill, Florida; brother, Robert Lee Whitfield, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; sisters-in-law: Mary Lee Whitfield (Lauderhill, Florida),  Eula Mae Moultrie (Chicago, Illinois), Lena Mae Nathaniel (Atlanta, Georgia), Mary Magdalene Bryant (Macon, Georgia),  Emma Bouie( Palmetto Bay, Florida); granddaughters, Jamie Nicole Ward Pollock (Nathan), Lauderhill, Florida and Sabrina Patrice Ward Bradley (Brennon) Wahiawa, Hawaii; great grandchildren: Jordan Pollock, Bryson Bradley and Nia Pollock; godchildren, Phyllis Mathis and Jevon Wimberly; best friend of 70 years, Lillie Mae Fye; and a host of other family members, friends and adopted children.
