    On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Charles Bernard Adderley, husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away of cardiac arrest, at the age of 78, 10 years after a subdural hematoma and stroke.

    “Bernard” as he was affectionately known, was born on June 29, 1941 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Charles Arlington Adderley of Long Island Bahamas and Luella Elnora (Major) Adderley of Coconut Grove, Florida. A product of Broward Schools, Bernard graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, in 1959. He was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army to fight in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, where he progressed to a technical sergeant and earned various specialty trainings and honors. After serving his time in the Army he returned home to his family and shortly thereafter, married his sweetheart, Jessie Mae Young. They raised daughter, Karen Denise Adderley Toomer, however, they lost their infant daughter Avis Deloris Adderley in 1972.

    Bernard was preceded in death by his parents Charles Arlington Adderley and Luella Elnora (Major) Adderley, his sister Dorothy Adderley Sears, and his infant daughter Avis Deloris Adderley.  He leaves to mourn, his wife Jessie Young Adderley, daughter Karen Adderley Toomer (Ted Jr.), granddaughter Marlo Adderley Toomer, sister Sharon Patricia Adderly DuBose (Sherwood), nephews Anthony Maurice Sears and George Albert “Tiger” Sears, and nieces, Sharisse Yvette DuBose and Shayla Danielle DuBose Johnson, and a host of cousins, friends, and associates.
